Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 4, 2026
Star Chart Kids (“Star Chart”, “we”, “us”) is a routine and reward app for families. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have — with a particular focus on protecting children, since the app is designed to be used by kids under a parent or guardian's supervision.
This policy is a general template and has not been reviewed by legal counsel. Before publishing, have it reviewed for your specific data practices, jurisdiction, and obligations under laws such as COPPA, GDPR, or CCPA.
1. Who sets up an account
Accounts are created by a parent or guardian, not by children. During sign-up we ask for a username and a passcode — we do not require an email address, phone number, or other direct identifier to use the app. Passcodes are hashed before they are stored and are never kept in plain text.
2. Information we collect
Account information
- The username and hashed passcode you choose when creating a profile.
Content you and your child create
- Child display names or nicknames you choose to enter.
- Avatar and character customization choices.
- Routines, tasks, chores, stars earned, and reward preferences.
Usage & technical information
- Basic, privacy-focused analytics (page views and general usage trends) collected via Umami, an analytics tool that does not use cookies or track individuals across websites.
- Standard technical data such as browser type and device screen size, used only to make the app work well.
3. Children's privacy
Star Chart is intended to be set up and supervised by a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children, and we do not require children to provide any identifying information themselves. Any names or details entered for a child profile are provided voluntarily by the parent or guardian and are used only to personalize the routine experience.
If you believe your child has provided us with personal information without your consent, please contact us using the details below and we will delete it promptly.
4. Where information is stored
Routine data can be stored locally on your device (browser storage) and, if you create an online account, synced to a secured hosted database so your data is available across devices. We use industry-standard providers for hosting and do not sell or rent your data to third parties.
5. How we use information
- To operate and improve the core routine, reward, and avatar features.
- To keep your account and your child's profile secure.
- To understand aggregate usage trends so we can fix bugs and prioritize improvements.
We do not use your data for behavioral advertising, and we do not run third-party ad networks in the app.
6. Sharing of information
We do not sell personal information. We share information only with service providers who help us run the app (such as hosting and privacy-respecting analytics), and only to the extent needed for them to provide that service, or where required by law.
7. Data retention & deletion
We retain account and profile data for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us — we will remove it within a reasonable timeframe, except where retention is required by law.
8. Your choices
- You can edit or remove routine, task, and avatar data from within the app at any time.
- You can request a copy or deletion of your data by contacting us.
- You can stop using the app at any time; local data can be cleared from your browser settings.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures — including passcode hashing and access controls on our hosted database — to protect information. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice.
